How identity verification works

Federal law requires identity verification — KYC — before any financial account opens. It protects you: an account that cannot be opened without proof of identity is an account that cannot be opened by someone pretending to be you.

Passing on the first try

  • Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID — nicknames fail matching.
  • Use your residential address, not a PO box, for the identity check.
  • If a document upload is requested, photograph the whole document, flat, in good light.

Entity accounts get the entity equivalent (KYB): formation, good standing, and ultimate beneficial owners. Verification of accredited-investor status is a separate, legally distinct step — eligibility is a legal threshold, not a judgment of merit.
