What you receive depends on what you own and the account that owns it:
The usual set
- 1099 family — for income and dispositions in taxable accounts.
- Schedule K-1 — for partnership-structured funds; famously late, routinely arriving near or after standard filing deadlines, which is a property of partnerships, not of any platform. Plan for an extension.
- Retirement accounts — custodial forms such as the 5498 come from the custodian, Investor Services, including for hard-to-value assets.
Deeper treatment: the paper trail of private-market taxes. Nothing here is tax advice; your tax professional owns your filings.
