Retirement

Private shares, tax-advantaged

Private company shares can live inside a self-directed retirement account — with the right custodian and the right paperwork.

How it works

Open a self-directed account at Investor Services, fund it, and direct the investment. The account owns the shares; the custodian holds them; proceeds from any future liquidity settle back into the account.

The rules that matter

Prohibited-transaction rules (IRC § 4975), valuation requirements for illiquid assets, and RMD planning when assets can’t be sold in slices — all covered in the Investor Services learning center.

InvestNow sells nothing on this page; retirement custody is provided by Investor Services.
